Weekend 1: Carmélites

"Every time I start in earnest on a work that is new to me, I feel rather like Columbus, wind and sea in my face, embarking on a grand voyage. This ship has left the harbor."

This weekend marks the first of many in which I'll be working on Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites.

I received the full score on Friday.

And my vocal score arrived on Saturday.

As I wrote, "every time I start in earnest on a work that is new to me, I feel rather like Columbus, wind and sea in my face, embarking on a grand voyage. This ship has left the harbor."  It's a lovely work filled with the sensuous and the serious.
